Multiculturalism Promotion Project

In order to promote multiculturalism, the IIA holds the various lectures for understanding different cultures, as well as other courses in the city to increase citizen's awareness of other cultures and to foster local leaders in multiculturalism.

Various Events

1. Cooking Classes

The IIA holds the overseas cooking classes by the instructors who have roots overseas in order to understand their overseas culture and lifestyle.

2. Experiencing Cultures

The IIA introduces the Japanese culture, history and custom to the people who have roots overseas in order them to deeply understand Japan.

3. Learning Foreign Languages

The IIA offers various language classes etc. to understand overseas lifestyle and cultures through such classes, and we organize many seminars to improve citizens' language ability as the purpose of promoting the volunteer's activities.

4. Raising disaster prevention awareness

The IIA provides opportunities to learn useful knowledge through workshops in case of emergency or disasters.

This is the notice board for IIA’s member. Those who hope to use the service need to apply to the IIA in advance.

3. Order Made Plan オーダーメイドプラン .

This is the service for the IIA's members only. In the case of planning to hold short- or long-term events or language courses for the purpose of international exchange, The IIA will support to arrange the place and publicize events or language seminars etc. through newsletters, etc.

4. International Understanding Seminar

The IIA supports projects organized by elementary and junior high schools, community centers, and various other organizations in the city that have the primary goal of promoting international understanding. We'll plan events and introduce foreign instructors.

Regarding Visa, social Rules, human rights, family and relationship Issues (between romantic partners, parent-child, friends, coworkers), international marriage/divorce, domestic violence, health care (poor physical condition/medical treatment), worries regarding work, volunteer activities, supporting others, education for children, language barriers.

proxy services or translation for drawing up the documents / counseling / medical treatment / breaking the law or administrative regulations / Important decision to solve your problems because its decision should be done by yourself.

Foreign Resident Support Project

Learning Japanese Language (for adult)

The IIA provides opportunities to learn Japanese as part of its daily support for the foreign residents to learn Japanese culture, customs and manners, and to ensure smooth communication with the local residents through Japanese language and other studies.

The IIA can introduce you to a volunteer Japanese Language tutor. The learning style of Japanese class is one-on-one with a volunteer tutor. If you are interested in teaching Japanese, please see Japanese version ”ボランティア登録 ".


Learning Japanese (for child)

1. Japanese Language Support at School (Project entrusted by Iwaki City Board of Education)

The IIA teaches Japanese language in order for children who have roots overseas to acquire communication skills and adapt to Japanese school and society as quickly as possible. In order for children to enroll, you need to consult the Board of Education in advance. After the Board of Education, the school, the student's parent(s) or guardian(s) and the IIA have consulted about Japanese Language Support, it will be decided. Applications must be filed by the principal of the school.

Guidelines for Acceptance of Foreign National Children by the School

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has created this leaflet with the aim of contributing to the smooth acceptance of foreign national children and students into public schools. It covers how to respond to the diversity of foreign children and students, the role of school administrators, the role of Japanese language teachers, the role of homeroom teachers, and the role of the board of education, and we hope that everyone involved in the education of foreign children and students will make use of it.

2. Japanese Language Support by the volunteer tutor

yasashii Nihongo

IIA published the leaflet “やさしい日本語(yasashii Nihongo)”.
やさしい日本語(yasashii Nihongo) means easy and considerate Japanese which everyone can understand, not only for foreigners, but also for children, the elderly and people with disabilities.
